For me, the connection between simplicity and zero waste is clearly visible and one cannot exist without the other. Like everyone else, I find garbage smelly and generally unpleasant. Unlike most people, I also find it fascinating. The fascination that it was really difficult to say goodby to some old habits.

From the moment I took small steps towards less trash, my life got a lot easier. Garbage-free living helps streamline many areas in your life, from grocery shopping to cleaning the house. Also, when I started paying attention to my purchases, I realized that I was buying many things that I wanted but didn't need. Going garbage free means becoming more aware of your purchases. Now I buy things that can serve a dual purpose and look for durable goods that last a long time.

For me, throwing away less waste means eating more healthy foods that aren't prepacked in plastic.

A garbage free life means different things for different people. For some, a garbage free life can mean going from filling a giant garbage bin a week to filling half a garbage bin a week. For others, it may mean a small trash bag a week.
